The joy of community singing

In February, I shared some thoughts about the Pool Community Chorus, an all-age, informal singing group that meets every Wednesday night during term time. We are now coming up to what has been a wonderful year of regular Wednesday night singing. It has been such a joy!

It has been lovely to hear singing voices gelling each week to produce a fabulous sound, as well as the laughter and chatter during our break and before and after rehearsal. Confidence has also grown as we have learnt songs together, embracing any challenges and we recently had the courage to do our first performance at Pool Feast. As the facilitator, I cannot tell you enough how proud I was of our singing group. Everyone participated and the sound produced was lovely. Hopefully, the audience enjoyed it as much as we did.

Our aim is to sing a diverse range of songs so something appeals to everyone. There are definite favourites but our Pool Feast repertoire included Waterloo (ABBA), Blackbird (The Beatles), Pick Yourself Up (from Swing Time - various artists), Skyfall (Adele), True Colours (Cyndy Lauper) and Make Your Own Kind of Music (Mama Cass Elliot).

It has been so wonderful to see community friendships grow because of the Chorus. When it is dark outside, that hall is the brightest place in Yorkshire and members often comment how much better they feel after a 'good sing' - we all never fail to leave smiling. Prices for sessions are kept deliberately low to make being part of the Chorus as affordable as possible.

So, if you are thinking that you would like to give Chorus a try – it might be just the thing to get involved with in the run up to Christmas - please get in touch by email: kl_learning@yahoo.com. New members are always welcome!
