Monthly Meanderings: January round up. Fancy a walk?

Monthly Meanderings: January round up. Fancy a walk?

I've been trying to share the walks we've done for a while now but have been struggling to 'get the approach right.' It has been difficult to find the time to create individual posts about walks if I don't do it straight away. I just get caught up in non-walking life again and it doesn't happen. Also, I can never do justice the directional aspect. I guess I'm enjoying myself too much, not very observant or too focused on the antics of Oscar the dog to file away where we turned, went through a stile or crossed a road. With this in mind, I'm going to try a new strategy of letting you know some good'uns and providing links to websites where others who are more expert will make sure you get from A to B (or A to A in the case of circular walks) in a much more effective fashion. So here goes....

North Yorks Moors: Carlton-in-Cleveland and Faceby (6.5miles)

Looking back over the walk

A big climb up Carlton Bank is rewarded with a gorgeous walk over the North Yorks moors, through woodland and fields. There is also a café en route: Lord Stones Café. More info on the walk here:

Peak District: Longdendale Trail (5 miles)

Torside Reservoir and Peaks

A circular walk around the lovely Torside reservoir with fantastic views of the Peaks. Great paths, that are mainly flat, make for good walking when the weather has been poor. Not far into the national park so easily accessible from Leeds and very dog friendly. Just a note of caution, there is currently a diversion from the path due to damage so keep an eye out for signs. Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: The Yorkes of Bewerley, Pateley Bridge (5.5 miles)

A misty day over Pateley Bridge

What makes this walk special is its variety in so few miles. From climbing through fields and beautiful woodland (so many snowdrops this time of year) to yomping across moorland next to knee-shaking crevasses and views to die for (even on a fairly misty day), I can't recommend this one enough.

Happy Walking! Until next month.....
