January Update: Tremoring, Teaching, Tailoring and Transforming

It was a very busy start to the year - lots and lots of TRE® - new clients, existing clients, groups and workshops. It is lovely looking back on the month and this made me think about how January involved all the 'Ts': Tremoring, Teaching, Tailoring and Transforming.

'Tremoring'

A key part of being a practitioner is my personal practice. It really is a case of 'practice what you preach'. This month, my personal practice has supported me to deal with personal stresses and changes; a high, demanding and varied workload (it has been super busy) and an annoying running-related injury. I'm always thankful for the flexibility TRE® offers - you can do it anywhere, at any time, as well as varying the time you spend on your practice. It also helps me stay present for my clients so what is there not to love?

'Teaching'

TRE® can be taught in so many ways and this month has involved them all. It has been lovely to teach new clients individually, in small groups and workshops. Each has its own benefits.

My 121 sessions at We are Wellness give an opportunity for a fully personalised introduction to TRE® or can be used to develop your practice further with an exploration of interventions to move the shakes around your body and play with them.

Small group sessions in Horsforth at Slim Fit Life, provide an accessible way to practise TRE® with others. These sessions are perfect if you have already experienced tremoring and would like the support of a practitioner to hold the space for your practice.

I've also run three workshops this month in two beautiful spaces: We are Wellness and Café Yoga. These provided an introduction to TRE®, as well as allowing you to experience shaking through a one-off taster. Returners always welcome too!

'Tailoring'

The beauty of TRE® is its simplicity to learn - once you can start and stop the tremoring safely, you can practise by yourself. Although there is a standard approach, TRE® can be adapted to suit everyone. This month, I've worked with teen clients to people who are over 60/70 - around 30 different bodies. No two sessions are the same - all adapted to those participating. Sessions reveal new things to explore every time - we marvel in the variation of the shakes; we meet the 'edges' and 'sticky points'; we notice the strength in our bodies to do what they are designed to do. All of this supports us to 'self-regulate' - tolerate and control emotions, thoughts, feeling and sensations independently.

'Transforming'

TRE® is about transforming our relationship with our bodies. Research suggests that 80% of neural traffic goes from the body to the brain through the vagus nerve. The shaking provides good news for the body - discharging tension and adrenaline. This month, in addition to this, I have also been thinking about how I transform TRE® for different clients. This involves ongoing learning - a key element for me as an educator and practitioner. I am blessed to be training as a mentor for new practitioners with the TRE College which allows me to revisit my own practice as well as supporting others. I recently also attended online training provided by Lynea Gillen around tools to bring TRE alive for children and teens. Both these learning opportunities have allowed me to revisit TRE® from different client perspectives, making it relevant to clients in a variety of ways. More on this in another blog post later....

I'm looking forward to what February brings. It is already shaping up to be exciting with lots of opportunities to help people through TRE®. Look out for next month's blog for more TRE®-related thoughts and musings. Kate ❤️
